Fred Perry Polo Shirt Review by Michael Stewart Menswear

Video Transcript:

Hi guys, it’s Sam here from Michael Stewart Menswear and welcome to our review of the Fred Perry polo shirts. Now these tops come in many different designs, styles and fits but we’ve selected three of the best of the best to give you an overview of this iconic top from an iconic British brand. So, let’s get straight into it.

M3600 Fred Perry Polo

So, first and foremost we’re going to start over here with the M3600 twin tip. Now this is probably the most iconic of the Fred Perry polo shirts, everyone’s used to seeing those two tips on the collar and the cuff there as well. This guy is readily stocked in thousands of different colours, honestly, the list goes on and on and there’s one thing Fred Perry can do it is get a colour combination just right, they really do get their colour pallets perfect and it makes it so easy to style and wear.

Now, when you’re looking into these you’re going to find a few things, you’re obviously going to find twin-tipped, you’re going to find a lovely embroidered laurel wreath and you’re going to find it made out of 100% pique cotton. The M3600 is cut to a slim fit as well so it is nicely tailored, if you are after a more relaxed style you can simply just size up and there you go, a nice easy-wearing polo shirt great for any casual occasion.

M6000 Fred Perry Polo

What Fred Perry then did, was minimalise it and create the M6000 which is what we’ve got in the middle here. So, same 100% pique cotton, same slim fit but they’ve just minimalised the design and brought all the focus on that stunning laurel wreath and this example here with the Fred Perry green is really quite stunning. It’s a little bit smarter in my opinion, you could probably dress it up quite nicely, but this is truly a winner in itself. So, these two are probably our most popular styles and will always be on our website available to shop.

The Fred Perry ‘Made In England’ collection

Lastly, let’s take a look at the polo shirt I’m wearing, so this one is from the ‘Made In England‘ collection and it’s handmade from start to finish in the city centre of Leicester where some of the world’s leading manufacturers of pique cotton. It’s overseen by Fred Perry themselves from start to finish, it really is a labour of love and you can tell by when you put these on, it just feels and looks just so special. It really is a world leader and really sets itself apart from any of the competition when it comes to polo shirts. It’s just nice to know that something has been made locally as well and it definitely does add that little bit of something special.

That’s not to discredit these guys, these are great polo shirts as well but come on, it’s made in England, what’s not to love? A few things to mention about this one is a little bit more regular fitting and it is measured by chest sizes, although on our site we have converted that to your standard medium to 2XL so dead easy to shop. I’d say take your usual size, they are a little bit looser fitting but not by that much so yeah, definitely take a look at those, well worth adding to your wardrobe and it’s a great investment piece as well. It’s going to last you cos it really is that height of quality.

The Overview

So here’s our overview of these three polo shirts, as I said earlier, I think they encapsulate what Fred Perry is all about. Timeless style and just super easy to wear and integrate into any existing wardrobe. The best thing about Fred Perry for me is that it’s loved and adored by many, from the youngest of the young to the oldest of the old anyone can wear it, anyone embraces it and everyone loves the sight of that embroidered laurel wreath just onto the chest there.

You know, Fred Perry has been going since the ’50s, it started with its roots in tennis but since then it’s been adored and adopted by youth cultures throughout all the decades, it’s cropping up all the time and really is a prominent style which has stuck through all the way to now. So what’s to say that it won’t go out of style for all these decades to come?

I think Fred Perry should be in everyone’s wardrobe in some capacity whether you like to wear it buttoned up, unbuttoned, on holiday, with a suit, with some shorts, however, you like to wear it, that is the best way to wear it for me.
