Hi guys, Sam here from Michael Stewart Menswear. Today, we're going to take a look at the Barbour Lydford jacket. The coat is from the countrywear collection, and it is an ideal quilted jacket for country outings, maybe just dressing up casually or generally wearing on your day-to-day. It's a lightweight quilt with loads of features, so let's take a look and get into this fantastic jacket.
So this season, Barbour is going in on their quilting heritage; now we all know Barbour and we love Barbour for their wax jackets. But their quilts are not to be slept on, and not to be overlooked. They are fantastic pieces of outerwear that are super versatile and can do everything a waxed jacket can do. And in some cases, even more.
What is the Barbour Lydford Made From?
This style is made from 100% polyester, it is a lightweight quilt with a diamond quilt design. But it is super warm, really versatile and as I mentioned in the intro. It's great for daily wear because it is lightweight, you can throw it on and use it. It's from the country collection as well, meaning it's made to a regular fit. So it's easy to wear as well, it's easy to layer as I've done here. So really, really let's take a closer look at some of this quilting detail.
As with all Barbour jackets, this thing is packed with those classic little details that we all know and love. To the inside of the collar, you've got 100% cotton needlecord which is super soft and warm around the neck.
The 100% leather accents lend a sophisticated and timeless quality, reflecting the country's heritage. You're also getting the typical Barbour hardware, brass placket, press-stud buttons and of course that classic brass two-way zip that feels chunky, and hefty, you know it's not going to fail you at all. The inside is lined with 100% polyamide and it also has a nice nod to Barbour's classic country collection heritage with a tartan pocket and a tartan inner back lining as well.
How Practical is the Lydford?
Practicality-wise the Lydford comes with plenty of pockets to keep your belongings close to hand and of course you nice and warm as well. So you've got two lower pockets which are box pleated, these can be accessible by the press-stud flaps on the top or, which is fantastic, they have side entry as well.
So if you're comfortable holding your hands down here you can keep them warm in your pockets. And with all classic Barbour jackets it also has hand warmer pockets to the chest as well which is just a super comfortable way to keep your hands warm when you're potentially commuting, or on that dog walk out in the country.
So with the Lydford that we stock here at Michael Stewart menswear you have two options in terms of colour. You've got the Navy as I'm wearing or the classic Army Green. They are two options that can be worn equally as well but it's up to you, I find that the Navy is a little bit more 'city' maybe a touch more contemporary. As you can see I'm wearing it with one of Barbour's classic country check shirts.
How to Style the Barbour Lydford

Again because of the regular fit they layer up nicely, I mean you could get some knitwear under here, maybe a sweatshirt to keep you extra warm as well. Here on the mannequin, we have the classic green with again another country shirt. I think this combination is really classy, really timeless and it just oozes classic Barbour.
And of course, with all of these jackets they pair beautifully with Barbour's range of accessories such as bags, and umbrellas and of course, I think these would look great with jeans with a nice pair of Barbour Chelsea boots to go with it. These are the Patton in Teak and they're a fantastic waterproof Chelsea which I think completes the entire look.
Things to Take Away
So there we have it, that is my brief overview of the Barbour Lydford. It is a country wear jacket that we have introduced for this season, so it's not typically one of our core styles but I think based on what we've seen and how it has been picked up in-store and online I think it could become a regular to our collection. As I said it's from the countrywear collection so it is a little bit more timeless, it's got that nice regular fit and isn't one to be slept on.
We've got more quilts like this on our website and of course, we've got all the classic waxed jackets as well. So, let us know if you're interested in this in the comments, get in touch or shop on our website. We'll see you soon.
