Hi guys, Sam here from Michael Stewart, and today we are celebrating. It is a big birthday for one of our favourite brands. This year Belstaff turns 100 and in that hundred years they have crafted some of the best pieces of outerwear we have ever seen, we have stocked and sold and their clothing collection is just as good. So to celebrate we're going to take a deep dive into the Trialmaster, potentially one of Belstaff's most iconic and all-time classic jackets. So, let's look at the classic Trialmaster on their 100th birthday.

The History of the Belstaff Trialmaster

Belstaff describes the Trialmaster as their definitive jacket. It was first introduced in 1948 and made for the Scottish six-day trial. So that was all about keeping motorcycle riders protected against some of the toughest weather and elements that you could come across. That legacy has remained to this day. The Jackets are made out of 6oz wax cotton which is beautifully wind and weatherproof, it's tough going, and it's got some nice reinforced areas; just like it would do if it was for riding motorcycles, and you can see that classic heritage embedded into the jacket from the lovely check lining to the slanted map pocket on the left breast there.

You know historically that would be used for easy access to get your map out so you can navigate whilst riding the bike. It also is a slightly longer style and belted as well so it is an all-time classic and it's never going to go out of style and that is what we love about the Trialmaster.

The Jackets Features

A few other features as well of course are a corduroy lined collar and cuff to add a bit of warmth and a bit of softness as well and it has a nice, steady-going fit. It is fairly tailored but not too much. I'm a medium I'm about 5, 10, 38 chests and I'm wearing a 38 in this as well, that's a UK 38. The jacket fits nicely, I'm layering in under one of the Belstaff half-zips with it and I think all-in-all it is an absolute classic.

So if you're looking to pick up a Trialmaster you have a couple of choices to make as well. The first is colour, you have a choice of faded olive, black or dark navy. I'm wearing the faded olive right now but they're all very dark colours, easy to style, very versatile and you can't go wrong with any of them.

Regardless of the colour you pick though you're always going to get a few things, you're going to get the badge to the sleeve there, brass buttons and hardware such as on the belt buckle and the throat latch and the same nice, blue/grey tartan lining to the inside as well.

What to Wear with the Trialmaster

So, the second choice you can make with the Trialmaster is to incorporate one of these pieces. This is the icon gilet, it comes in the same matching colours as the jacket. It wears beautifully by itself, you can wear it just as a mid-layer when things aren't as cold but if you want to 'winterise' the Trialmaster this gilet fastens to the inside with press-studs and you can wear it as an incorporated whole jacket. Believe me, adding this on really does add a nice little extra bit of heat, keeps you warm, keeps you toasty and the jacket is versatile, so you can wear the Trialmaster all year through. Have this in winter, pop it out and it makes a great jacket for the rainy seasons and spring.

Things to Take Away
