Video Transcript:

Hi guys, Sam here from Michael Stewart Menswear and today we're going to take a look at two seasonal variations of an 80s icon from the Barbour range. We're going to look at the Hooded and the Utility Spey jackets. These are great for the spring-summer season, so let's delve in and let me tell you all about them.

The Barbour Utility Spey Wax Jacket

So, the original Spey jacket is a much-loved variation of Barbour's classic waxed cotton jackets, and it's much loved by fishermen of all things. These jackets are slightly cropped, so they're not going to get absolutely soaked when you're wading into deeper water to catch those fish. Truth be told; I don't know anything about fishing, but I do know about Barbour jackets. This season Barbour has decided to revitalise the Spey jacket with some new variations that lean on that classic heritage.

Firstly, let's take a look at the waxed cotton version. So it comes in the usual 6oz waxed cotton in an olive green. They've done a few little updates with a contrast corduroy collar in a sort of golden beige, but you still come to see and expect the little d-rings, the tabs, the little bit of elements that give it some utility and make it look like a jacket that will and can do the work. Of course, as with Barbour, you've got the classic accoutrements. You've got the brass double zip, brass hardware which gives it that vintage look and two bellow pockets to the bottom, so plenty of practicality and a unique cropped style, perfect for spring showers.

The Barbour Hooded Utility Spey Jacket

So next, the one I'm wearing is the showerproof hooded Spey. Now it's made from 100% polyamide, it is showerproof as the name suggests and it's a little bit more utility, perfect for when things do start to get wet with the hood but it harks back to those classic features such as the D-ring tabs, two pockets.

But it's got some nice other features as well, there is a drawcord at the waist to allow you to cinch in for a nice, better fit, tonal hardware and a lovely contrast yellow lining, that does make this jacket pop. The cuffs are adjustable with velcro tabs as well which is great.

Again, you can tailor this to make it fit how you like it, but it's going to see you right when things when the rain starts to come and the weather starts to take a little bit of a turn for the worse.

How Do the Barbour Utility Spey Jackets Fit?

So, whereas these jackets are both perfect for the season because they're lightweight and super easy to wear. They're also really nice and easy in their fit as well. They are true to size and regular fitting, so we do recommend taking your usual size. As ever, I'm a size medium; I'm wearing a medium in this, and I'd be wearing a medium in the waxed Spey as well. So, dead easy to throw on, you can have the option to layer as well, so it will see you into the colder months as well; which is what Barbour's all about for us. It's utility and it's getting the most out of these jackets and wearing them as much as possible.
