Hi guys, it's Sam from Michael Stewart Menswear, and welcome back to our YouTube channel. Today we're taking a little look at some Belstaff overshirts. These are brand new for the autumn/winter 23 season, but for me, an overshirt is an all-year-round staple, it's an essential piece of layering, and we've got two styles in four fantastic colours that I can't wait to tell you all about.
The Brand
Belstaff is one of our biggest brands, it's one of our favourites. They have a super rich history that is just steeped in motorcycle heritage, you know that's where they started off making proper, hard-wearing gear. As the years have gone on they still do make those pieces that are built for the road, but they've also used some of that design DNA to put into more of their casualwear, and for these overshirts, it's no different.
Belstaff Overshirts - The Hedger Design
Let's start with the one that I'm wearing and the one you can see at the front here in black, this is the Hedger overshirt. It's made from 100% polyester, and it's cut to a pretty regular fit. I'm a size medium, and I'm wearing as such now. It's got a two-way zip and two pockets to the chest. It's got lovely tonal hardware - it is a nice, simple piece of outerwear that has all the design elements you'd come to expect from something like Belstaff.
So the pockets are practical, and the design looks 'moto-inspired. It has some nice ventilation under the arms as well and is super easy to layer, super easy to use, and it's just a great style.
You've got the core colour in black; as you can see, the more tonal badge on there with the gold does pop. Or you've got this seasonal colour that I'm wearing which is Blue Flint, again it has the black and gold rubberised badge to the arm which just adds just that little bit of extra something, really shows that you're wearing Belstaff and you're proud to do so, it's one of the more preferable badges that I prefer to get in if you catch my drift.
Belstaff Rail Overshirt
So a bit of movie magic, quick change into the Rail overshirt. So this is slightly different, it's a polycotton blend, majority cotton. A little bit more lightweight, a little bit more breathable, and it has a lovely sort of crinkle finish to the fabric, so I'd say it's a little bit more casual. I mean these are, you know, you're not wearing these to a wedding, but it's got a little bit more of a casual, a little bit more of a technical vibe to it, and it also has just the singular pocket with the zip to the chest. You're still getting the same sort of fit, the same two-way zip, the same metal hardware.
The badge to the arm on this one is just in their classic cotton patch, again black with the gold phoenix, it does pop and does look great. As you can see here, I'm wearing the Navy core colour, it just goes with every outfit you can throw at it. Or you could go for something a little bit different as you can see on the rail here in True Olive. which is a great seasonal colour and again it's pretty core I think, a dark green, you can't go wrong with it.
How to Wear Belstaff Overshirts
So that's your overview of these two styles in four fantastic colours for this coming season's overshirt options from Belstaff that we have here in stock at Michael Stewart Menswear. As I said sort of earlier in the video, they're versatile, they're a really easy piece to wear and more and more I'm seeing overshirts being picked up in a sort of lieu of a lighter weight jacket.
I think they look cracking, there is a bit of a running joke within the shop that I'm obsessed with overshirts, and to be honest, they'd be correct and that is purely down to their versatility, their ease of wear and just the ability to layer with them.
You know they look great over a t-shirt as I'm wearing now, or when things start to cool off a little bit, there's nothing wrong with putting a bit of knitwear underneath, a hoodie, a sweatshirt, and they do wear under some bigger jackets as well so you really can layer them up. And the bonus part of that is, you can wear them all year round, they're always going to be to hand, easy and ready to use. They're lightweight enough to throw into a bag and use when it's sort of spring, and you get caught in a bit of a cold spell or shower.
Things to Take Away
