Who are Sandbanks? Designer Clothing Brand Review by Michael Stewart Menswear

Video Transcript:

Hi guys, Sam here from Michael Stewart Menswear and today we're going to look at a brand new brand that has just landed on our shelves, Sandbanks. We've managed to secure the brand for autumn and winter 24, and it's primarily known for its fantastic outerwear, which we will certainly get into. But we were itching to get it on the shelves, and we reached out to them and said, look, can we have a bit of stock for spring/summer?

We think our customers will love it, so we have managed to get some nice T-shirts and polos. I want to tell you a little about the brand, its history, background, where it's come from, what it's doing and what to expect from this fantastic and exciting up-and-coming brand.

The Background

So, Sandbanks was launched in 2019 and was done so in collaboration with Jamie Redknapp. Now, I'm not a football guy, but I recognise the name, and the name Sandbanks comes from an affluent area in Poole on the Dorset coast. It's meant to be lovely down there, picturesque.

I've never been myself, but when you look at the pictures, it is something stunning. Their clothing represents the environment and the nature that's around that area, so they have a big focus on the likes of sustainability and try to be inventive with how they manufacture their garments, as well as partnering with people who sustainably make the actual materials using waste from the ocean or actual second-hand consumer waste as well.

Inspired by Luxury, Driven by Sustainability

So they're trying to do a good thing by being sustainable to help combat global warming, which is threatening the area from which Sandbanks is based. So it's obviously a matter that is close to their hearts and to those residents around that area, as well as looking at things on a more global scale, and their whole sort of ethos is to do fashion, to do luxury designer gear but just differently in a new and refreshing approach.

So Sandbanks is dedicated to longevity, buying, and investing in good quality clothing, and we've got an example of that just behind us. The reasoning why for that is that 140 million pounds worth of clothing goes to landfills, and that is just in the UK alone, that's every single year.

So there's a hell of a lot, so the idea is you're going to buy something, you're going to invest in it, and you're going to keep it and wear it for a long, long time.

Our SS24 Sandbanks Collection

Sandbanks polos all colours

For the spring-summer collection they have a lovely range of crew neck short sleeved t-shirts, some nice polo's in various guises, so there's one with a zip neck, there is a tipped version as I'm wearing and there is also a plain block colour, all with the Sandbanks logo to the left chest.

Everything is 100% cotton, it's organic, it's lovely, the trims are made from recycled materials as well, and it just looks smart. They have some seasonal pops of colour such as coral and light pinks and blues, but at the core, you're going to get navy, white and black season in and season out, and you're going to see styles like this repeat season after season, and there will be some of these polo shirts coming into the autumn-winter collection.

Of course, this brand is renowned for its outerwear which we haven't got our hands on quite just yet, but we are excited to get stuff like the Explorer jacket. We've got some heavyweight puffers, all waterproof, you know, great weather protection, they'll keep you warm, they'll do everything you need and much, much more. I'm personally a massive fan of outerwear, so I can't wait to see this and to be able to get it on video and show you guys as well.

Sandbanks Size Guide

So, size-wise, Sandbanks is regular fitting, especially in the polo's and t-shirts. I'm a medium, wearing a medium, that fits quite nicely in the body, there is room to move and breathe, but it's not too baggy, it's not too regular. Round the arms, it is snug but not tight, so, again it just finishes off with a nice fitted feel. We'd recommend taking your usual size. In the jackets, I do believe it is the same as well. I did try a couple on in the showroom when we were shopping the collection for autumn and winter, and they fitted just as I'd like them as a medium wearing a medium.

What Brands Does it Compare to?

So, with the likes of someone like Jamie Redknapp sort of behind the wheel on Sandbanks, there's no wonder it is being seen in and around the beautiful game of football, especially on the sidelines by managers and pundits alike. It is gaining some momentum, and if there's anything that football fans like, it's proper clobber. If you think about the likes of something like Stone Island and CP Company, how outerwear brands like that have captured the imagination of these football fans.

Sandbanks is in some way emulating the same thing, and you know, for me, it's quite comparable to something like Belstaff where quality is paramount, and styling is really clean and accessible for everybody, and there are not many people who wouldn't look good in a Sandbanks Jacket or t-shirt or polo like this.

Who's Wearing Sandbanks?

So, on the sideline you've got the likes of Steven Gerrard wearing it, Jamie Carragher as well as many others, I'm not a football guy, but I do know the likes of Freddie Flintoff wearing it, we've seen Michelle Keegan in one and even Sean Rider from Happy Mondays, he was on The Last Leg wearing one of the overshirts so it is getting about, it's starting to ingrain itself and it is a brand you're going to see a lot, lot more of.

As I said, we're getting it in autumn and winter, where you're going to see the full weight of this collection including that fantastic outerwear that we just can't wait to show you.

Things to Take Away

So, to round off, Sandbanks is a luxury brand that is driven by sustainability, of course, this is a message we can get well behind. But on top of that it is just a brand that we think looks and feels amazing, it's very much a Michael Stewart brand, it has a tasteful collection, it's adorned with nice trims, it's not too flashy, it is very much is a quiet luxury that we think looks great on absolutely everyone who's tried it on so far.

So, of course, you can shop all this from Michael Stewart Menswear. You can do so on our website or pop into our Selby store, see it in person and give it a try. I think a few people will be converted from some existing brands to Sandbanks. That's all from me, and we'll catch you on the next one.
