Video Transcript:

Hi guys, Sam here from Michael Stewart Menswear, and welcome to another instalment of Barbour Icons. This is the series where we take a deep dive into some of Barbours most iconic and timeless pieces of outerwear and clothing. Today, we're going to take a little look at the Barbour Ashby Jacket. This is by far one of our favourite styles, and I can't wait to tell you all about the features, the fit and a little bit of background about this wonderful style.

The Background of the Barbour Ashby

So, let's start with a bit of background on the Ashby, this is a reworking of the classic and iconic Bedale jacket which we covered in a previous video. So the Bedale is a staple of country wear, and all they did took that iconic style, they slimmed it down, updated a few features and created a contemporary and modern jacket that is fit for almost any occasion. It truly doesn't look out of place in the city or the country alike, and I think it belongs in every gent's wardrobe as it is a versatile and great way to get into Barbour wax jackets and Barbour outerwear as a whole.

What Features Does the Ashby Have?

So the Ashby has everything you'd come to love and expect from a Barbour jacket. It's made out of 6oz wax cotton, which is water-resistant. It also features the iconic corduroy collar, corduroy cuffs and tartan lining. Now, pocket-wise, you're not short of pockets that's for sure. It's got two bellow pockets towards the bottom, it's got two hand warmers which are great when it comes to winter and one internal pocket to the inside there as well. And to top it all off, you've got a storm to latch with brass buttons and a super hefty two-way brass zip to give it that classic antique look that we all love from a Barbour jacket.

What Barbour Accessories Fit the Ashby?

So if you're looking to make the Ashby a great all-rounder, there are ways you can accessorise this jacket to make sure you're protected whatever the weather. So first and foremost the Ashby is compatible with Barbour's zip-in liners.

We stock two of them here. So you have the Polarquilt liner which has a nice fleece inside, and then you have something called the warm pile which is made of a polyester faux fur pile that is super, super warm, great in winter and the best thing is, it makes the jacket adaptable. It means that when it gets warm, you can just unzip that liner, and you can wear it through the slightly warmer months such as spring and when things start to get a little bit hotter even in summer as well.

The Ashby is also compatible with their press stud hoods. So, just on the back of the collar, there is a row of press studs, and you can add one of their matching wax cotton hoods to go with it. So really, you can have a jacket that's going to see you through every single season, you're going to stay dry, protected and warm and look good doing so. What's not to love about that?
