Hi guys, it is Sam from Michael Stewart Menswear, and welcome to another instalment of Barbour Icons. Remember, this is the series where we take a deep dive into some of Barbour's most iconic and timeless pieces of outerwear.
Today, we're taking a look at the Corbridge from the lifestyle collection, this has been part of our portfolio of Barbour jackets for years, and it's one that we absolutely love and adore. Of course, because we've had it so long, we know loads about it. I'm going to tell you all about the features, the fit, some of the details and just a few reasons why this should be one of the jackets in your collection. Let's get straight into it.
The Features of the Barbour Corbridge Jacket
The Corbridge is a really functional, utility, rugged jacket. It has lots of features that make it winter-ready, and it definitely has winter in mind. Of course, the exterior is made from Barbour's 6oz wax cotton. That's going to give you that windproof, that water resistance and of course, that classic Barbour style. And then on the inside, you've got a really nice, lightweight, nylon lining, but it's also padded as well, so it's got about 50g worth of padding. Which adds that extra bit of warmth and a bit of extra layering between you and the elements.
On top of that, you've got a concealed hood just into the collar, so there's a nylon hood which also has a drawstring so really easy if you get caught in the wet weather. It's really easy to deploy that and stay warm and dry. So it really has wet weather, cold weather sort of capabilities at the forefront of this jacket, and that's why we love it. It's so adaptable and easy to wear. But because of the four pockets on the front and that timeless Barbour styling, it just looks classy, what's not to love about that?
And with warmth and function in mind, with the Corbridge, you're going to get that corduroy lined collar, adjustable cuffs, and a really hefty two-way zip that feels fantastic to use. It really is quite rugged, and a press stud storm flap seals everything up nicely and gives it that overall nice, crisp, clean look that you come to expect from a Barbour jacket. There are hints of tartan in the lining as well just to take a nod back to Barbour's heritage, and then subtle branding to the back of the neck and embroidered just onto the lower pocket there as well.
Barbour Corbridge Size Guide
When it comes to the Corbridge it's worth mentioning the sizing. If you've watched the rest of our videos in this series, you'll know that Barbour sizing can vary massively from jacket to jacket. I myself can range between a small in something like a Union Jack and go all the way up to a large in a Duke.
In terms of the Corbridge, you're looking at a slim fit, and even Barbour recommends on their own site to size up one from your usual size. So currently, I'm wearing a large in most jackets, I do wear a medium. If it's any use I have a 38-inch chest and about 75 kilos, so yeah, normally a medium is my size, but I've just sized up for one.
I'm wearing this over just a nice sort of piece of knitwear, and to be fair, there's a little bit of room left in here. I wouldn't want to layer too much, but because of that extra padding in this jacket, you don't really need it. It's going to keep you warm regardless of how many extra layers you wear underneath. So size up one, and you should be absolutely golden.
How to Style the Corbridge
When it comes to styling the Corbridge, I think it's pretty versatile. I don't think it looks out of place in the country as it does in the city, and I think that's mostly because of that nice slim fit that it provides. Now a lot of that also has to do with the colour that you pick as well so you can go for Black as I'm wearing which is quite sleek, very toned down or you can go for something like the Rustic, again it has the tonal hardware but you know, that sort of deep brown does evoke a little bit more countryside.
Regardless, they are very dark colours, and they are very, very easy to style and wear and adapt into most of your wardrobe, especially when it comes to winter, again this is a winter jacket, it's probably going to come out only when it gets cold and these dark colours really do work. Definitely worth looking out for some seasonal colours that Barbour does release in this jacket as well. We do sometimes stock them year after year, but you're always going to find black and rustic in our roster of Barbour jackets.
Things to Take Away
So there we have it, a bit of info on one of these fantastic Corbridge jackets. As I said, it's one we've stocked for ages, it is certainly one of our favourites, and it is up there with some of the best that Barbour offers. We've got it in stock for so long because you guys just love it so much, and I think that is a testament to the style, its adaptability and of course its power in winter when things get a little bit chillier.
So if you're interested in either of these styles in black or rustic, do check it out on our website. On there, you can see the entire Barbour collection where we have just so much more to offer. There is always more stock coming in as we speak. Or, you can head into the store and see it in person as well.
