Hi guys, it's Sam here from Michael Stewart Menswear and today we're going to take a look at a gifting guide for Father's Day. Now I aren't a Father unless having two cats counts. I'm getting some headshakes from behind the camera. I think it does buy hey ho, we'll move on. I do have a Dad however, he's probably watching this. Hi, hi Dad.

Now, for Father's Day, they're a nightmare to buy for, but I find they are anyway. You know, they've already got everything they want, exceptional children, but also if they need anything they go out and buy it. But, that's not to say that we can't lend them a hand with some good style choices or perhaps get them some essentials that they'll always need so I've pulled together a collection of the must-haves that your Dad needs for this Father's Day.

So, whether he's picky, or he's quite easygoing, whether he's a smart guy, a casual guy, I think we've got something for you, so let's delve in and pick out some of my best, top selections for Father's Day for this year.

A Classic Shirt: The Perfect Father's Day Gift

So, let's begin with clothing and a particular focus on shirts. Now shirting is a great gifting idea especially just across the board you can shop it in many different ways to suit many different styles. Let's have a look at what's in my hand, this is an R2 shirt, we have done a video on these previously which we'll link to, to help you sort of get to grips with sizing.

But they're smart, they can be worn a little bit more casually, they're great for suiting, they're great for a nice pair of jeans, for maybe going out for a nice dinner, birthday, different occasions, you name it an R2 shirt can pretty much cater for everything. Super soft cotton, absolutely fantastic quality and they all come with a nice different level of trim detail, whether that be in the collar, a contrast in a cuff, or a bit of piping down the placket, they are truly exceptional and best yet, they come in so many different colours you can get your plain pinks, light blues, dark blues, whites or you can even get some nice patterned shirts as well.

So whether your Dad likes to play it cool, keep it understated or he's a bit of a, you know, bolder, gent, maybe he likes a bit of a James May shirt, he can go for something patterned as well. So they are a great option.

The Overshirt

Or, if a smarter shirt isn't quite his vibe you can go for something a little bit different. Let's go for an overshirt, now this is the Raven shirt from Barbour. It kind of blurs the line between shirt and overshirt. It's not super heavy but overshirts have been trending, you know, quite a lot in these recent years.

Again, picked up by everybody and they are a great way to elevate a bit of style. Especially if you're popping one of these over a white tee, that's gonna be a nice little outer layer during the summer. But, you can button this up, it has got a bit of a heavier weight to it. So it's going to be great in winter as well and if there isn't anything Dads love more., it's getting some bang for your buck and you're definitely going to get that and he's going to be wearing this throughout the entire year. I can almost guarantee it.

It's a nice style, indigo dyed, it's almost denim-y, it's got a nice sort of texture to it as well. Super casual, I can see a lot of Dads looking good in this as well, not that I think often about Dad's looking good. Anyway, we're going to move on.

Casual Classics

Now I come from a family of F1 fans, motorsport is our thing. But I do know a lot of people out there who like a game called football and that leads me to people who are very much into the casual culture and casual styling.

Now at Michael Stewarts, we've got a great selection of Sergio Tacchini, Diadora, and Fila and I think if your Dad's into any of that kinds of things, something like this would be a great option. A nice tracksuit top from Sergio, perhaps a polo or a T-shirt from either that or Fila. That's always going to hit the spot isn't it, it's going to look good. This is the Dallas track top, it's a nice poly-cotton mix, it's got a nice bit of contrast colour to it, and this is a very toned-down look.

We have some fantastic brighter colours this season which might be right up his street. And if luck will have it, they might even be the colour of his football team, so that could be a great option as well.

Leather Goods Gifting

So another great gifting idea is what we call 'leather goods', we're talking belts and wallets. And a brand to particularly look for in this category is BOSS, Hugo BOSS. They've got a great collection and we've got some fantastic choices of belts and wallets. We've got brown, black, silver buckles, brass buckles, you name it.

Suitable for jeans or trousers, suits even. BOSS belts are a great option to go for and have a great price point as well. Or you can't go wrong with just a classic wallet such as a classic bi-fold, this one has options for coins, and you've got plenty of options for cash, you know Dads are old skool and like to use paper money still. Plenty of options for cards and again we've got some great choices, subtly branded, a bit bolder, grain leather, patterned, you name it, there are some great choices there as well.

Now, lastly, honourable mention, if your Dad's into his gadgets, he's a little bit techy, you can go for something like this. This is the Secrid wallet, it is a brand out of the Netherlands and it's unique, it's a little bit special, it's a little bit different. It's got a compact card-holding design. It's small and comes in a range of colours. It's also made from an aluminium body and as well it'll protect your cards from scanners or from anything that can read them.

It keeps them safe in there as well. There is also room to hold some cash, to hold a few notes and some of the card ports like your ID as well. A great unusual choice but quite nice, quite handy and I think someone who's into their tech and gadgets would quite enjoy that as well.

The Classic Father's Day Gift...Socks

Of course, it wouldn't be a gift guide without the obvious…Socks. Now you know, it's a bit of a faux pas gift, isn't it? Feels like a bit of a get-out-of-jail-free card. But something like these, Swole Panda socks, they're made from Bamboo, they're soft, they're absolutely lovely. They come in a range of ribbed, plain, flat, striped, spotted, you name it we've got an absolute rainbow of choice here and these are a great choice.

One size fits all, £9.99 a pair so you can get a few, really put together a nice little gift box for him. You can't go wrong with a pair of socks. He'd always appreciate them as well, especially if they were in his favourite colours. And of course underwear-wise, Calvin Klein and BOSS do some great 3 packs, again you get some great value for money, some nice colour selection and he's going to like them, he's going to wear them, they're essential and you can't go wrong with an essential, practical gift.

Treat Him to a Little Bit of Everything

Now a few honourable mentions before I go through the entire inventory of our store to convince you it's a good gift. You've got something like polo shirts, especially if it's from a brand that he likes, always going to be a winner. Get him a colour he maybe doesn't have or a replacement for one that he's worn to death. Particular notes…Lacoste and Fred Perry.

Those fantastic polo shirts from those guys. Any other sort of accessory, you can't go wrong with a six-panel cap, it is the classic Dad accessory. Got an option here from Barbour but shop any of our brands they're going to have a fantastic selection of headwear to choose from as well. And lastly a great honourable mention…trainers. Let's update your dad's clunky trainer collection, get him something sleek, get him something new, something like these Veja's are a great shout. If you want a bit more detail on those, we will link to some previous videos telling you all about Veja.

So I think them as a whole will give you a nice selection for absolutely everything your Dad could want this Father's Day.

Gift Cards

Now, lastly, if you're still looking at all this and thinking I haven't got a clue and you're at your wit's end, because maybe he's just that difficult to buy for, or you've just got too much choice and limited budget to spend all your money on everything for Fathers Day, I have got a great solution.

It is simply…the Gift Card. You can't go wrong with this, we have options for gift cards in-store if you are local to our Selby store in North Yorkshire. Or you can buy an online e-wallet voucher which will be emailed to him, on the day of Father's Day, nice personalised message, any value you want. It'll sit on his account and he can shop to his heart's content as and when he feels up to it.

So don't sleep on the gift voucher, it's great and if you're anything like me and you do things a little bit last minute when it comes to gifting, you could get it on the morning of Father's Day, you could get it just before you walk in through the door to see him. It takes two minutes to get sorted with a gift voucher.

Things to Take Away this Father's Day

So there we have it, that is Father's Day summed up. I hope that helps you a little bit to get something for the important man in your life. Now, Dad, if you're still watching this, you've ruined the surprise, you probably know what I'm going to be getting you. And I wonder what the cats will be getting me, I quite like that denim Barbour shirt. Anyway, that's all from me this time, we'll catch you on the next one.
