Veja Volley Canvas Trainers Review by Michael Stewart Menswear

Video Transcript:

Hi guys, Sam here from Michael Stewart Menswear and today we're going to take a look at a new but also old trainer from the brand Veja. They have re-issued the Volley - it's a cracker, so let me tell you all about it.

The History of VEJA

So Veja first launched the Volley in 2005; it's one of the very first silhouettes they created. Took it to a Paris fashion show, and since then, they've sold 5,000 pairs off the back of that. Veja launched their whole message about sustainability, where they've sourced their product from, a lot of the rubber being from the Amazon and Brazil. And, yeah, it gave Veja the kick-start that led them to ultimately sell 14 million pairs of shoes worldwide until just now.

That's on stuff like the Rio Branco, the Campo, the styles that we currently stock and love. So, to see this come back, it is a great addition.

Where Does the Name Come From?

It gets the name Volley from what it's inspired by, which, much like where most of these components are sourced from, is based on a 1970s Brazilian Volleyball shoe. Super niche, but the styling is cool, and it's got a lovely low silhouette. It has a suede toe cap with a broguing detail, and of course, with everything Veja, it's got a nice contrast V and the Veja patch to the back. There's a little update as well they've given it a cool, vintage Veja logo to the tongue. This version comes in a canvas with suede and leather, but in winter, we will be doing an all-leather version, obviously a little bit better and a little bit more resistant to the nasty weather.

What Colourways Do We Have in this Season?

So, we have two colourways in stock for this season - white and black and white and green. So whether you're a bit more paired down, a bit more minimal, or you like that pop of colour, we've got you covered.

Composition-wise, they are canvas cotton with a nice suede toe cap, a bit of suede to the heel and, of course, the iconic contrast V and contrast Veja logo to the heel. Anyway, that's enough about these and talking about these, let's see what they look like on foot.

How to Style the VEJA Volley

So I think these should be worth a go. I think it's falling in line with stuff like the Adidas Samba trend that we're seeing at the moment. People are wearing these with a bit of tailoring, you know, really sort of casual, down those smarter looks. But also they look great as summer shoes, they're going to go well with shorts, jeans and chinos alike.

That being said, even the brand Veja, I think is worth a go generally, do check out their other styles, such as the Campo or the Rio Branco, if you're into your runners. If you're a bit sick of the sort of bigger trainer brands and you want to try something a little bit different, Veja's a good one to go to.

Things to Take Away

The quality is great, the pricing structure is also fantastic so it's not going to break the bank and on top of that they're sustainable so they're doing a bit of something good for the environment as well. It's one of our recommendations and we can't wait to see what else Veja have got to bring out. These are being worn by a lot of the guys here at Michael Stewart Menswear and when the leather ones come in I think they're going to get picked up even more.

So, check these out, and check out Veja. I'm going to stop waving these around, and we'll see you on the next video! To stay up to date with all of the latest fashion news and trends, follow us on Instagram.
